Here is the finished Rotating Can
Next comes the stator unit. We wind the wire around each pole. These are basically 3 phase motors. There are 9 poles. Each wire will wind around three poles. The kits come with "Newby" wire. Three colors red, green and gold.
Stack the two stators on top of one another.
Start with any color of wire. Leave about 3" of wire at the start. Now wind as neatly as possible. Start near the center and work your way towards the outside of one pole. You should be able to get nine turns of wire. Then start back towards the center. You should get a total of 14 to 16 turns of wire. |
First color of wire is complete.
Continue on with winding the poles. Skip 2 poles to start the second pole of this phase, when done with this pole, skip 2 poles and wind the last pole of this phase. When you finish this 3rd pole leave about 1 and a half inches of wire and cut off the spool of wire.
The second phase is wound
Continue to wind the second phase just like the first phase. |
All 3 phases are now wound
All three phases are now wound. Locate the 3 ends of the wires. Not the start of each winding, but the end points.

Scape off the enamel coating of all three wires.
Scrape off the enamel from all three wires. Start with the green or red so that you can get a "feel" for how much to scape because the copper colored wire will be hard to see when you have scaped enough. |
